Tuscany is the real cradle of the Italian Renaissance with an incredible mix of art cities and breathtaking landscapes. Tuscany is to date one of the most popular tourist destinations of Italy. If you are one of the few people who have not yet visited this beautiful region, here is a quick guide to some of the attractions Tuscany has to offer!

City of Art & Culture

If you want an itinerary which includes all the most important Tuscan art cities, you will have to include just about every province on your list. This is the charm of an area which embodies the very essence of Italian art – home to Leonardo da Vinci and Dante just to name a few. Tuscany has given Italy and the world some of the most glorious geniuses of art and literature of our time.

Florence is clearly the art city “par excellence”. This Renaissance city is home to an incredible number of churches, palaces and monuments that hold the signature of some of the most important names in Italian history. Florence is not the only city of its kind. Siena’s UNESCO Heritage old town and its historic Palio also top the list; as well as Pisa’s famous leaning tower; and Lucca, the city of 100 churches with its ancient walls and breathtaking views; and even Volterra, where the past seems to have frozen in time.

Tuscany is not only art and history. This beautiful region is also filled with green countryside whose serenity and beauty has even attracted international stars. Chianti Valley is the perfect example of country vineyards and olive groves. Val D’Orcia is another example of picturesque rolling hills. And of course there is Maremma, with an unbeatable National Park, green hills and thermal baths.

Tuscany also offers an infinite number of destination spots for those who prefer the sea to countryside. Versilia, Argentatio, the Tuscan archipelago and its beautiful small islands, the magical Elba – these only name a few of the beautiful beach resort areas of Tuscany.

Of course we can’t talk of the beauties of Tuscany without mentioning food and wine. Tuscany is a land of unforgettable flavors and aromas – meat, fish, wine are among the many specialties that can be tasted in the region. The menus are long in this region.

The specialty Tuscan meat is the precious Chianina; fish specialties include caciucco Livornese; cheeses include the famous Pecorino and all its variants; cold cuts made with fennel, wild boar ham, and the legendary colonnata lard.  There is an endless selection of IGT protected regional products which will have you licking your fingers!

We must speak of the incredible wine selection that Tuscany has to offer. There is an abundance of top quality wine with a great number of DOCG and DOC wines that ensure manufacturing and production excellence. Included in these wines are Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and Nobile di Montepulciano. Tuscany is home to some of the greatest Italian red wines – you simply can’t go wrong when it comes to wine in Tuscany!
